Obama Boys Basketball Prepares for Coming Season

Arya Datta, Hirai Shuda (Sophomores)

As the fall sports season slowly comes to an end and chills begin to set in, the outdoors becomes an increasingly unwelcome venue for sports. Athletic students must then turn indoors. One group of students is gearing up for a redemption season: Boys Basketball. Junior Torrien Perkins, who has been a member of the Boys Basketball team since his freshman year, says he is, “Excited to get our respect and get back against Brashear and Dice. We left off on a bad note last year; I want to see what USO hoopers bring to the talk.”

The program is looking for a “Young team looking to make a statement.” When asked about some things the team couldn’t achieve last year Perkins said, “Like always we are looking to win the City League Championship, along with beating Dice and looking to send our seniors off on a high note with a great season.” For those who are interested in joining the team, Perkins encourages you to participate in the open gyms held at Obama from Monday through Wednesday from 6-8pm. “[Open gym] has been good. Myself along with other returners have put in a lot of work over the summer, and it shows, but we need more people to come and see what everyone from USO has to offer.”
